I am the way .... i see as saying live like i do , love like i do
I am the truth ... again i feel this is about his words of love for his fellow man
I am the light ... this i feel is about Jesus inner spirit , his love for the world shining bright
to live and love like Jesus did is the way , the truth and the light ....
this doesnt mean that he is a saviour or a God but a great teacher to emulate to progress spiritually
( but I am not Christian though so others will no doubt say differently )

JN 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Jn 14:7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Jn 14:8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
Jn 14:9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jn 14:10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
Jn 14:11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.
"I am . ..The Truth . . .. "
This means that Jesus is the only way to get to God the Father. It is life to come to the Father and death not to, so Jesus is life and the way. As for Jesus being the truth, He is sinless and He and the Father are One, so He is truth not a lie or sinfull. He even says this after the verse you asked about. He is the only way because: We have all sinned, all sin leads to the second death, that second death is enternal Fire, (We die because we sinned by eating from the tree of the knowlege of good and evil) Jesus who is God in the flesh, and never sinned, and wasn't born from men but a virgin - didn't have to die, He died on the cross to give a gift to those who believe in Him by dieing for our sins so that we who believe do not suffer the second death. So He who didn't have to die, died so we who should die don't have to.
If you murder once, your a murder. If you lie once, your a liar.
Rev 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the SECOND DEATH.”

As the truth, Jesus is the reality of all God's promises.
Jesus is the visible, tangible image of the invisible God. He is the complete revelation of what God is like. Jesus explained to Philip, who wanted to see the Father, that to know Jesus is to know God. The search for God, for truth and reality, ends in Christ. (See Col 1:15 & Heb1:1-4).

Jesus was also the embodyment of God's word thus:
Jesus = Word
Jesus = truth
Word = truth
God's commandments is the truth and the way, no one can get to Him except by following them.

Jesus is the true and no lies:
Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie,
The way of salvation, way of living:
John III 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
John I 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
The Life, living life by his shed blood
John I 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
John I 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
John I 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
