I usually buy apples, and am wondering what the proper method for washing whole fruits is. I sometimes use a tiny drop of anti-bacterial dish soap, which doesn't affect the taste, but is probably not the best way to go about it. I just want to eat something that is clean...and I know that with the pesticides and handling by people, fruit gets dirty.
Is there a particular soap I should buy that is safe to use on fruits or vegetables?
I appreciate any helpful feedback, thanks.

I'm not insane, and I'm looking for a product that other people might use (along with water) to wash fruits/vegetables.
Thanks.

Valid question. Water sometimes isn't enough- especially for non-organic fruit/veg items.
You can buy a fruit/veg wash that should remove most of that bad stuff. This is a UK product to give you an idea of what it looks like: http://www.naturalcollection.com/natural-products/Earth-Friendly-Fruit--Vegetable-Wash-.asp
Do note- so many nutrients are stored in the skin of the fruit/veg. Soil today is not what it was a hundred or so years ago, but still, potato skins and apple skins are still really good for you so I wouldn't 'overwash' anything or remove skins, unless you feel you really have to.
If you're concerned, you should try growing some of your own fruit and veg- that way, you know there aren't any pesticides and that they have been grown in decent soil.
These days, they use all kinds of garbage as fertilizer- sometimes they use ground-up chicks left over from the dairy industry and any other junk they can lay their hands on. You should have at least 1 organic fruit/veg scheme near to you that does things 'right'. Check out the web or your telephone directory.

I know.
I have a huge orchard at home. When there are no apples and I have to buy the shop ones I can actually taste the chemicals on them.
I just hold them under a running tap which is spring or well water and dry it off with some kitchen paper.
No soap and no dis infectants.

My mom used to wash fruits and veg with sterilizing liquid that you use for cleaning baby bottles. I think you can buy it from any supermarket. Is it called Milton strelizing liquid? You can also use sterilizing tablets (baby products). Just make as directed and wait to cool.
That should do it. Doesn't affect the taste at all. Hey presto. Clean fruit and veg!

Put the fruit in a bowl and leave for a few seconds so any insects can fall off. Then wash them just rubbing with your hands especially apples and oranges- leave then to drain in a colander. Then store.
The best way to wash grapes in to first dip them a couple of times in a bowl of water and swirl it around to get rid of any dirt etc and then wash them under running water then drain in colander.

Just use a lot of fresh water. If you are hypochondriac -which I understand you are- use also a piece cloth to dry them. About pesticides there is nothing you can do, except choosing fruits that have not a perfect skin. These one have been less exposed to the pesticides

Organic fruit from your own country.
The skins of the apples you can usually buy in stores are so full of chemicals that it would be better to peel them. That's not being a nut - its just common sense.

I think you don't have to think much about this, cause most of the people in the world wash their fruits only with water. And i never meet anyone who get sick only because they don't wash their fruits with anti-bacterial soaps or like this. thanks.

use a bit of lemon juice.. the acid in the juice kills most bacteria and after rinsing it with water you don't taste the lemon. This is what my dad's doctor told us to do after his lung transplant, so I suppose thats the best way to go about it.
