What did you think of Antonio Margarito's win over Joshua Clottey saturday night? And do you still think he could handle Floyd? I know a lot of folks on this forum think Margarito would destroy Mayweather, i'm just wondering if you still feel that way based on what you saw the other night. I gotta tell you, he got hit an awful lot by a fighter not nearly as fast or skillful as Floyd. But i give him credit, he did what he had to do, he got the W. But if Clottey had not hurt his had are we looking at a new champion?

I never thought Margarito could beat Mayweather, though I would have liked to see the fight before saturday; not anymore. In the early rounds before Clottey was hurt he dominated Margarito by using his speed and defense. Exactly what Mayweather would do, but he would do it even better, it would be a one-sided affair. On another note, I wouldn't have said this before, but I would like to see Cotto fight Mayweather. Cotto cuts off the ring very well, and you cant escape his body attack. After watching him destroy Quintana, who is a very good boxer, I think Cotto may present the biggest challenge for Mayweather b/c of his style.

Cool Breeze, i'd been telling everyone all along including the guys that i train that Margarito was way to slow for Floyd. Margarito throws such wide punches and he telegraphs most of his punches and Floyd would slip or pick them off easily and Floyd would counter punch him to death. If Clottey doesn't get injured i don't think we are even discussing Mayweather-Margarito anymore. Clottey was on his way to a win unless Margarito would've caught him with huge punch and turned the fight around and i don't think that would've happened because Clottey was gaining confidence and he was fighting an intelligent fight up until he hurt his hand. There's talk that Margarito may face Cotto next and i think he'd have his hands full with Miguel or Paul Williams. Mayweather would beat Margarito. No doubt about it. Great question as always from you Cool Breeze!

Cool Breeze ~
I was one of those fans a few months back, I'm not sure exactly when, but I answered a question about a Margarito vs Mayweather fight and I wrote... After watching a couple hours of video on Margarito, I must change my opinion that Antonio can beat Floyd.

Antonio doesn't throw a short compact hook to the liver that would be needed to beat Mayweather, his punches are too wide. The only plus Antonio would have going in to a fight with Mayweather would be he can and will apply pressure, that it, I really don't think he has the one punch knockout power every ones claiming that he does, he's very one dimensional and at times looks very sloppy.

If this fight were ever to take place, Mayweather would win a very lopsided unanimous decision.

Thanks for the good insight Cool Breeze to ask a great question.

I am a huge Margarito fan. I liked how he destroyed Citron, Lewis, and so many other fighters. But Clottey was on his way to beat Margarito until he hurt his hand. Although I like Margarito, he may be too slow for Mayweather.

Not anymore. I did at one point think Margarito would beat Floyd now I realize that was foolish. The size difference isn't as important as I use to think. Floyd looked reasonably good against the natural welterweight Baldomir. Margarito wings his punches too much. Floyd will get in and out with relative easy. Floyd would school Margarito no doubt.

Floyd is too fast, counters too well and Margarito doesn't throw the straight punches well.

A TRUE BOXING FAN WOULD REALIZE THAT YEAH ANTONIO DID LOOK SLUGGISH,BUT HE STILL MOVED FORWARD.YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT NO ONE WANTS TO FIGHT THIS GUY AND FOR THAT REASON HE WAS INACTIVE FOR 10 MONTHS.AND TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, IF MARGARITO AND MAYWEATHER WERE TO FIGHT MARGARITO WOULD PUT AN A** WHOOPING ON MAYWEATHER. IF YOUR GIVING UP ON MARGARITO FOR LOOKING BAD ON ONE FIGHT,YOUR NOT A TRUE BOXING FAN YOUR BETTER OFF BEING A WWF WRESTLING FAN,WERE EVERYTHING IS FAKE.

I don't and nothing I saw makes me say he would. I'm just not impressed. Styles make fights and we'll see if he has that x factor that can make him rise into another division and dominate that. To me Floyd has the goods and when presented with a problem he will overcome.

Hell no. Margarito is tailor made for Mayweather; slow, with those looping punches.
