How do I search for private foundation scholarships that are not as commonly known?

I know there are a lot out there, but I have no idea how to even begin a search for them. Any suggestions would really be wonderful!

Sorry! Should have said this before. I am looking for ones for undergraduate or undergraduate nursing!

Unfortunately, with the internet, scholarships can be located in several methods. However, nursing is one of the career fields that has a lot of scholarships available to its students due to the nursing shortage.

First, apply at FAFSA.ed.gov now if you will be attending during the spring semester since the fall semester is almost done. If you will be attending school in the fall, the application will become available January 1. I recommend applying as soon as you can. This will help you tap into need based financial aid from both the federal, state, and college levels.

Second, go to the local library and look at their scholarship book. It lists scholarships not located on the web. This will take time to hear back from them on whether or not you got selected.

Third, search for grants and scholarships based on your state and nursing scholarship. A number of states offer grants for nursing students.

Fourth, check with your college's financial aid office and website. They list private scholarships from companies and organizations. Also, some college major websites list scholarships. This takes time to hear back from them on whether or not you got selected.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search. Any of these scholarships take time to hear back from them on whether or not you got selected, too.
