Hi keig, Great Question...
You might laugh at this or maybe not, depending on your age...around the mid -sixties every Friday evening my mother would treat my brother and me to a Turkey T V dinner, don't laugh but to me it was like the future, dreaming about the seventy, flying cars and going to the Mars... you had to be there... watching shows on T V like Star Trek, I Dream of Jeannie, and Lost In Space...BOY!!! those Turkey TV dinners were made super fast it only took a half hour and we had the works Turkey, Dressing, Mash Potatoes, Gravy, corn and a cherry pie ...WOW...ALL IN ONE SUPER FUTURISTIC ALUMINUM TRAY...
Well the seventies have come and gone, we are now in the future, my cars still dose not fly and I have not been to Mars... But I can still watch does TV hits on T V Land and Even crave a turkey T V dinner... lol....

When I was about six we lived in Germany. An early morning in October sitting on the balcony with my dad. He was polishing his shoes and boots, like he always did on a Sunday morning. Our housekeeper brought my dad coffee and a thick slice of toast and for me cocoa and a piece of toast. I just sat there drinking my cocoa and eating my toast along with him. I watched my dad, he would shine his shoes until they looked new. Sometimes we would talk, but mostly just sit together quietly. I miss my dad but if I sit outside, when its just so cold with cocoa and toast, I'm transported back in time. Yeah I know what you mean. It sure is a great feeling. Thanks for the memory.

Potatoe Stuffing.
Potatoes
Onion
Breadcrumbs
Salt
Pepper
and the most important ingredient....mixed spice.
This was my grandmothers receipe. She died when I was about 5.
My mother made it recently after all that time.
When I smelt it I started crying and no-one knew why.
It reminded me of her.
I could actually see her when I got the smell.
I'm 19 now.
Another thing is whole nut chocolate. It reminds me of my grandfather
Also ham
Every christmas, my mom cooks the ham in lots of Heineken. When its done the skin is taken off and lots of brown sugar is patted all over.
The smell and taste of that will always remind me of the holidays and family.

Oatmeal, potatoes and gravy, apple pie, black pudding, sauerkraut. All very comforting - I try to make them like my mother or granny did. Not all the time but just aroud this time of year, it really hits a spot. It must be the weather.
