"burning/killing" are strong words for "orthodox" hindus, they would prefer "sacrifice" more.
Yes, it was a tradition followed in some parts of India over a centure ago. You may know, the Hindu dead are cremated, not buried. So on the funeral pyre of the husband, his widow was supposed to sacrifice herself. Apparently, the society had some reservations about allowing a widow to live. The sacrifice was called "Sati".
However, thanks to a reformer called Raja Rammohan Roy, this ghastly tradition came to an end. It was, due to his efforts, made illegal. The society no more followed the tradition, not only because of legal fears, but also due to reformist thinking in Hindus due to English influence.
In summary, no, that tradition is not followed now.

This is Sati custom which was started when Moguls (muslims) attacked India...so to save women from being taken slave by muslim invaders

Women of the warriors who died would killl themselves by burning, thus saving their respect

This was banned long ago, but very rare incidents are heard...say once in a decade by some idiots

Hindu scriputres Gita and Upanishada have no mention of such a custom

No. No matter how orthodox they are, they don't do it. Apparently, there are stray incidents of this kind in the country, but it's VERY rare, and they make newspaper headlines when they occur.

Maybe it used to happen once upon a time. But like sacrifices are outdated, this sort of thing no longer happens.

This was practiced very long time ago.
But still some villages in India are so remote to today's world and so religious (or superstitious) that they do so even in present times.
