The KJV is the accepted version of the translation of the Bible into English. It's believed it was sanctioned by God and no doubt was. Some of the other Bibles are converted into current English and there are virtually no differences except from King James English and the English we now use. If your looking for a way out of accepting the Bible as a Holy book, you didn't find it here.

There are at least 40 or more translations of the Bible from the original languages in print in English. This is a good thing allowing the student of the Bible who is not a Hebrew or Greek Scholar to learn the nuances and various meanings of the original languages.

All Bibles are basically translations of the same book. The first translation and most often the translation thought to be most correct is the St James version. As far as the old and new testiment people misunderstand the old testiment. The old testiment contains thousands of laws that were relevant for the time in which the book was created.
For Example: You shouldnt eat pork --- pork is very hard to cook throughly and they realized that people who ate lots of pork became sick early so they integrated that pork is an unholy food into the religion to prevent sickness

I like either the Revised Standard Version or the New American Standard
the King James was a good translation, but they only had a vocabulary of 5,000 words. Now we have 25,000.
And we don't speak like they did = read the introduction to the KJV -

Oddly enough none of them. King James is pretty much the standard but they all have biases built in. The new International King James is pretty good. You should try to find one with the apocrypha included.
This is a nice searchable online site. It has several versions of bibles. You can compare them and then decide for your self.

You may want to choose something written in modern language like NIV (New International Version) and definitely read the Book of Enoch. ((most of it is available on-line))
