Hello,
I was working as a practice nurse in Germany doing EEG's every day.
Dont worry, An EEG does not hurt, but takes a while to set up (depending on the machine and nurse ;-) )
You will get several electrons placed on your head, (sometimes on your wrist as well, which is to measure the radius pulse). These electrons measure your brainstorms and it will take about 8-10 minutes. Depending on your health and age, you sometimes have to hyperventilate for some time. This is to provoke the brain and to monitor any changes. They also will ask you to close and open your eyes sometimes which will also change the brainstorms.
An EEG is compareable with an ECG and some patients with strong head-ache, epilepsy, vertigo (dizzines), after an accident etc. would receive one. As I sad, dont worry, many people would receive an EEG once in their life. If you have still worries or questions, ask your GP to explain the procedures and the reasons patients will receive an EEG.
Hope this helps.

It's quite relaxing. You lie down on a couch. The nurse sticks little electrodes on your chest with (very cold) jelly. Then you lie back for a couple of minutes and she takes them off again.

A few minutes later, they show you a picture that looks like a storm at sea and expect you to know what it means.

I have had 2-3 over the years. They are nothing to worry about and quite straight forward.
You do not feel any pain or anything, just lie there and relax and just listen to the instructions the nurse gives you.

They are FUN! gooey stuff on your scalp, its water based, so washes right out. Then is a light show! Strobe light goes off to test reactions. Its all over, kool aide or juice, a pretty picture to look at and you tell them what it is. I said it was a pony, but it was a sailboat. shhh
