some times the ask er of the question is asking a ridiculous question and people will not give serious answers to silly questions other people only answer these questions in a ridiculous way because they think that funny and sadly there are people who are very pompous they feel its their job to point out everyone Else's shortcomings so people will be people like my grandma always said "eat the meat ,and spit out the bones!" in other words when you receive council take the stuff that applies and disregard the parts that don't apply!

Typing errors can cause the appearance of incorrect spelling.
When it comes to the really poor spelling, though, I'm not one to comment. Not everyone has great spelling skills. English is a second language for many people. For some people, though, spelling poorly may be something they've struggled with and been embarrassed by most of their lives.
Once in a while, though, if there is some clod who has a question that shows a cruel or caveman-type attitude toward people like women or children (or even toward pets) I wouldn't be above pointing out the spelling as a sign of ignorance.

It really depends on the actual content of the question ... if I feel the question is serious and is asked for in a "real" sense then I ignore all spelling mistakes (because a lot of the questions are posted by people for whom English is a second language) ... but if it's just a crap question that has been posted to just antagonise and cause a stir ... then I'll bag out any mistakes ... and yes I guess I may have made one or two errors in judging a question ... but thats life ... you can't always be right :)

It definitely bothers me when someone focuses on minor spelling or grammar issues rather than the question being asked. If it were my personal question and someone reacted in the manner that some do regarding this issue, I would definitely report them for abuse, after all, the rules that Yahoo has set up are a question and answer format - and not a discussion of other topics such as the askers spelling and grammar.

I agree. But if your misspelling is to the point where your question is incomprehensible then it's a problem, as well as incomplete sentences. Doesn't bother you when. Know what I mean? ;)
But to point out one word's misspelling instead of answering the question is rude. They just want points. As if they've never misspelled a word.

Due to the diversity of the people who use this site i think we can expect spelling mistakes as English may not be their first language.
Some of the questions are out of this world and deserve derision but i think that we need to take a serious approach to the questions and not the grammar or spelling.

I've never been criticized for spelling here on Y!A, but I think it's rude when people do it. It makes it seem they're not paying attention to the content of the question. Kind of like not listening.

No it doesn't bother me and yes I correct blatant spelling errors.
Sloppy spelling on this site can quickly transfer to sloppy spelling on school papers and business reports.
Sorry, but when I was in grade school I went to Catholic schools (Late '50's to early '60's) and if there was even one misspelled word one a paper you turned in it received a failing grade. And I am the world's worst speller to this day. I use Spell Check, have 3 different dictionaries and a portable hand held electronic speller I keep in the car or briefcase.
A poorly spelled sentence reflects poorly on the author.

If it's an obvious slip of the typing, I believe it to be rude. No one's perfect.
However, I find it highly amusing when someone points out a mistake in a question and, when they answer, they make a mistake themself.

no- the poor spelling of any question is representative of the asker. Think about it- you have spell-check at your disposal, you have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips and people still mis-spell the simplest of words.(e.g.- wit(h) , sposed-(instead of supposed), mis-using words in a really bad way, etc. .
Accidently mis-spellings are umderstandable- It is the blantant ignorance of fools who flaunt their lack of grammar and spelling that bothers me. It isn't "cool" or " ghetto" or even"cute" it is social inadequacy and complacency.
