there is nothing better than to give somebody something that you have made yourself and what could be easyer than a nice red onion marmalade
TAKE 2 RED ONIONS AND SLICE THINLY
PLACE IN A PAN WITH ALTTLE OIL
GENTLY COOK UNTIL ONIONS HAVE SOFTENED
ADD 2 DESSERT SPOONS OF BROWN SUGAR AND 100ML OF BALSAMIC VINEGAR
COOK GENTLY FOR ABOUT 10MINS
ALLOW TO COOL AND SERVE
TIP.......IT WILL KEEP IN THE FRIDGE MONTHS BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF SUGAR AND VINEGAR IN IT

Yummy, my mouth is watering at all these suggestions, and I'm going to try that red onion chutney! I just wanted to add that pears are wonderful with stilton, thats a classic combination. As it's difficult to find ripe pears, try to buy them a few days before and if you have a sunny windowsill, put them there to ripen. I always have some olives if I'm having cheese, so maybe a dish of green and a dish of kalamata ones might be nice? Also, Morrison's do a jar of pickled garlic cloves for under a pound which are heavenly. Those mixed with olives and some cubed feta in a little oil, are delicious.
Anyway, whatever you decide, have a great party, I want a cheese & wine party now! And who cares if its retro, its a good idea!

I LOVE figs and goat cheese, or prunes and goat cheese.
Apples are great with cheddar... a nice crisp one, maybe macintosh. NO granny smiths (too tart) or red/ golden delicious (ew!).
My fave though is brie with a roasted apple chutney, or a simple fresh grape chutney... you have to try that!
Also, I always serve a meat tray as well. I do prosciutto with melons and prosciutto with grapefruit.
Good luck and happy eating!!!

Sounds lovely.
I always serve my cheeseboard with fresh figs, dried apricots, passion fruit and plenty of port!
I'm sure you know but get the cheese out of the fridge nice and early.
Have fun

Try pears (must be the soft variety such as comice), apricots, blueberries. For chuntneys try to get hold of an apple chuntney (much better than the boring ploughmans variety). And for something unusual, get quince jelly (Barts make one). I always get comments on that.
Enjoy x
