Can someone help me please, my cat will not stop howling, he is about 7 months old, and getting fixed on tuesday, but I dont know if thats the problem. he has been howling EVERY night or the past week. starts at about 1130 doesnt end til around 5. he goes near the door and howls and howls and just won't quit. I've also noticed he doesn't play much with my other male cat over the past week. the other really weird thing ive noticed is that when hes howling and he lays down, his lower body and tail shake. I took him to the vet, they couldnt find anything wrong i am so worried i have no idea whats wrong with him, i just hope hes not in pain. By the way hes been spraying the hell out of my apartment but this constant howlling has kept me up for the past week and i just need it to stop. someone please help. he also constantly licks himself, just his paws and his chest, not genital area. and rubs head on EVERYTHING Thats really all i can think of PLEASE HELP

My male cat used to do this when we lived in our apartment! Since taking him back to the shelter was not an option, we learned to sleep with earplugs in! Now that we moved into our house, he has calmed down considerably, no more howling in the middle of the night! If you can spray him with water when he does this, or lock him in a room at night with food, litter box, and toys, maybe that will help you sleep better~

Hi, I have worked in the animal industry for 6 years and It sounds to me, from what you are saying, that he can smell a female close by. He really wants to mate with her, so I would not put him out until you have got him fixed and this would also explain why he is also not paying attention to your other cat. Your other cat is a male so he isn't really interested in him! The fact that he is spraying tells me that he marking his territory and he is probably licking himself right after spraying as well, right??? That a normal ritual that takes place after mating. This licking can also indicate that he is trying to mark his territory with everything, urine and saliva! Hope this has helped!

Kind regards and Good luck!!! :-)

hahahahahhaha....sorry.....but I have to laugh....nothing to worry about.

He's just HORNY...thats it...nothing more.

He is howling to call the ladies.....he is spraying to attract the ladies.....and the lay down tail/butt twitch is the hormones wanting to get out BADDDDD.

If the other male cat is fixed in the house this is why he isn't interested as he smells different. Once he is fixed this will go away and he'll become normal again.

Be happy you don't have females.....they moan and go rubbing happy on everything and walk around like their backs are broke with their butt in the air and the tail straight up like a flag pole.

just part of nature....nothing more.

Its the male hormones... he can smell a female in heat and as long as that female is in heat, your cat will keep yowling (he is calling to her). After you get him fixed, the yowling will stop. He may continue to spray sporadically when he sees any strange animal in his territory, but maybe not. My male cat yawled me insane until I had him fixed. He calmed doen a lot too. He still sprays on plants and cars when we go walkies - to mark territory, etc. Have your cat fixed ASAP... there is no other way to stop his nightly opera singing.

Getting him neutered will solve the problem!

Are you SURE it's a he? Maybe it's a "she" in heat.
