“Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatreds than those which spring from any other cause. I had hoped that liberal and enlightened thought would have reconciled the Christians so that their [not our?] religious fights would not endanger the peace of Society.” Letter to Sir Edward Newenham from George Washington, June 22, 1792
"Question with boldness even the existence of God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." 1787 letter from Thomas Jefferson to his nephew.
And more to the point of the matter:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." U.S. constitution, Bill of Rights, 1st amendment.

And is is this also the reason why the government refuses to put a pentacle on Patrick Stewart's grave? Because he wasn't Christian? It's perfectly okay for non-Christians to give up their lives so you can have the freedom to drive around in air polluting SUV's and eat your greasy super sized hamburgers and french fries, and curse the country that gives you those freedoms, but it's not okay to respect a dead soldier's wishes? What kind of hypocrites are you?

Yes, I am aware of your quotes. Did you know .. there are many throughout history with admirable qualities and accomplishments (Thomas Edison was an Atheist). However, this country was founded on freedom of religion. Freedom of religion means freedom of choice. Do you object?
By the way, Thomas Jefferson also proposed separation of church and state, but you didn't quote that.

you got both george bush's for your troubles. Maybe its time you elected an atheist. lets face it, an atheist couldn't screw things up any more than dubya has, and at least he'd use logic instead of religious dogma in his choices.
