I have a ringworm problem that isn''t going away. My dog has had it since October 15, it is now December 4. I have taken her to the vet twice. Skin scrap was positive for ringworm for 3 patches on her mussle (one right on her lip where she can lick it). Our vet first put her on Cavamox, 2 pills of Program (given 2wks apart), and topical Tresaderm (twice/day). Well, that only improved it alittle, so then we used (topical) Clotrimozole and held her mussle shut for 5-10 minutes (3 times a day). It has gotten better but still not gone. Our vet didn''t give any other advice for getting rid of it finally for good. So..my question is, is there something else I can give her or do that will clear it up quickly? I wonder if I could use human products on her because she can lick them, or somekind of home remedy? Also, how do I know it is gone, what do I look for? Thank you for your time, it is greatly apreciated!
Very frustrated!!

Is the lotrimin ok if they lick it? Also how do you do it, any particular routine, how many times/day? Thank you so much for your quick response!

What you are experiencing is pretty normal. At minimum it takes 3 weeks to clear but it is often 6-8 weeks.

Here are some things you can do.
Give a bath with Melaseb shampoo every day, available from a vet or you can find it online I'm sure. They also make wipes you can just wipe on the spots.
Thoroughly dry your dog.
Use the clotrimazole 2%, be generous with it and rub it in really good, you don't have to push super hard but massage it in so it soaks in a bit. Apply 3-4 times a day.
Then, put a little bitter apple spray on top of it to keep your dog from licking it.
You can also use a product called BluCoat. You can find it at a Fleetfarm type of store. It is a spray and don't do it on anything you don't want stained. Applying it outside is best because it sprays like spray paint so it's easy to get some on the floor by accident.

Lastly, it is highly contagious, so wash his bedding in a hot water wash with bleach to kill anything on the bedding. Clean everything she lays on or throw it out. That will help prevent reinfestation and new spots.

You will know it is gone when the patches fade away. But, keeping bathing her every other day after the patches fade, for prevention.

Patience, it will get better. It's a chore but it is so very common.
Good luck!
