Kevin M is right on this one, but others have the right idea in response to the correctness of your question. You have to have some sort of physical line coming into your house and being connected to either a cable modem, DSL modem or a dial-up modem. If you have a neighbor with any of the above connection types but also has a wireless router that's unsecured, you can hitch a ride on his or her transmission line to get wireless internet. This is not always legal in most states though. It doesn't hurt to just ask if you can hitch a ride though, or you can offer to pay part of the bill if they allow you. Although wireless is a little slower, it frees up tangled cords, but costs you extra hardware such as the wireless network card, and the wireless router. Compared to dsl or cable you don't always notice the difference, plus how many people download so much stuff constantly that they always need a high speed connection?

Are you talking about wifi to create a home network, or actually using some sort of wireless service?
Cable is faster. It's a big fat wired pipe. Wireless systems are generally far less speedy, usually less speedy than DSL.
Wireless also has the connectivity issues. With wired, you plug your ethernet cable into the cable modem and boom your connected. With wireless, once stable connections may become unstable.
Wireless systems, especially a public wireless system, are much harder to secure then wired access. Unless you activate the security, if your provider has any, your internet traffic is subject to eavesdropping.

i presume that by wireless you are referreing to wi fi. Wi fi would be better. You can browse from anywhere in your house. And it shudnt affect speeds. Anyone coming to your house can also logon to your network without having to configure a modem.
If you are refrring to access of internet through wireless modems on GSM/CDMA networs then its pretty bad.
