I work overnight and I would like to start walking 2x a day. I was thinking about 1x in the morning than in the evening. Would it ruin my sleep, walking before bed time?

GOOD QUESTION(thumbs up)... I was one of those that used to work out @ night. Nowdays I only workout in mornings. After much research this is what I discovered: Towards the evening your body is getting ready to shut down, that means sleep. And when does the body do all the recovery and healing?? Of course at night when you sleep(day, for graveyard workers). However, when you workout at night and go to bed soon after, that may not give your body enough time to recoperate from your exercise. And since you are talking about walking , I presume for weight loss? If that's the case, then same thing. You will burn more late afternoons than night time. It won't neccesarily ruin your sleep , but when you get those blood flowing it's that much more longer for it to shut back down for rest and healing time for your body. Thus weight loss not as effective than doing it much earlier. Oh , and don't forget proper diet & nutrition. And no eating late too!

Yes, it stimulates the body, it's tough to slow yourself back down to a normal heartrate quick enough to fall right asleep. Maybe work out like 4-5 hours before you go to sleep but not 1-2 hours.

No, unless it was a vigorous walk. Hard exercise will cause your blood pressure to rise as well as respitory, thereby needing a while to calm down before sleep. Milld exercise only causes minor body excitement. In either case, you will sleep much better (unless your sore).

they do say not to exercise within an hour of bed time but right after dinner or before is fine, you could do yoga at bed time, something that doesnt get your heart beating fast.
