i stuck around for him during his hard time... but i'm afraid i've waited around for too long. would it be socially acceptable for me to dump my boyfriend because he's fat and has been unemployed for 6 months?

Go for it! 6 months is a long time - I am sure he'll get a job if he 'willing' to look for one. In your case, i think he's lazy - So do what you gotta do !

1. You've already dumped him, you just haven't made it official. Just the way you've phrased your question makes it obvious that you're looking for a way out and that there's no commitment in sight.

2. I have to say that it bothers me a little bit that a main concern in all this is whether this will be socially acceptable. Who cares? If the relationship doesn't work, then it's over, you don't need public approval on this. But why is this being socially acceptable more important to you than how this will affect him. You actually care about the opinion of others more than the man you're supposedly in a relationship with? You see what I mean when I say this relationship is over?

3. One other thing. Did you start dating him for him being in shape and employed? If so, then I'm sorry, but you have a lot of groing up to do. And if not, then why does it matter if he doesn't have those things right now?

So my advice to you would be to first sit down and think for a bit about why you liked him in the first place, did you think he might be your soulmate, or was he just cool, goodlooking and convenient. If the latter is true, then like I said, you've already dumped him mentally, now it's time to make it official. If there really was something there, then you guys need to sit down and have a good talk and figure out how to save your relationship.

Good luck.
