I saw this on Come Outside with my little girl. (It has Lynda Baron the woman who used to play Nurse Gladys Emmanuel in Open All Hours in it)

They put colouring into the 3 vats and they all come down separate plastic tubes ending in 3 nozzles which fill up the tubes.

Hooray for kids telly.

The tube has two or more seperate compartments for keeping the colours apart and these feed into nozzle

its injected into the tube by a large white injection tube and several tiny tubes with the stripe color, the color stays in place, if you cut a tube open you could see it.

The same way they put the multi colored showers of dazzling special effects in fireworks. You can figure it out from there. I have to go to bed.
