there not all that great for SPL, but they sound reallt good. which is harder to do then SPL. by the way make sure you get the Excelon series.
JL is overpriced and dont sound that great
Kicker subs suck. they sound like crap.
EDIT: anyone who say Kicker cares very little about how a subwoofer sounds. just cause a sub can be loud, does not mean it can sound good. and if kicker pounds so hard, then why do they not hold the SPL world record?
what you will get in a Kenwood sub is a high quality made sub, for not a lot of money, that will sound really good no matter what kind of music you listen too. Getting there Excelon line is the best bang for your buck. high performance subs that will sound great.
what you wont get is the loudest sub in the world. if thats what your looking for, then hands down go with Pioneer.
Do yourself a favor and go into a private store, NOT BEST BUY, and listen to the Excelon line of subs. if your looking for sound quality you will be impressed.

(JL does not make a L7 sub, its the w7. and 2 12w7 subs hitting 160db.. well, lets just say 160db is reserved for multiple 15" and 18" sub set ups)
Kenwood subs are far from being very loud. But they do sound pretty decent. I would say go to a store that has them and grab a listen. If you like how they sound, go for it. The only reason to not is if you're going for extreme sq (sound quality) or spl (sound pressure level aka loudness). But if you just want something you can hear while you drive to fill in the bass, then get whatever fits your budget and sounds good to you.

Personally, I wouldn't use them. Its all about what you want out of your sub. I personally like Image Dynamics subs, they have a good balance of sound quality, reliablity, sound pressure, power handling, use of in a small enclosure, and price. There are a lot of great subs on the market. Just know your company and check the specs.
