They have found a gene which they believe is related to a person's religious tendencies, although nurture still does have an effect. http://www.thepolitic.com/archives/2005/03/17/the-religion-gene/

A doctor in San Diego USA has done studies on people who have experienced brain damage.
One man the doctor examined would have intense religious experiences when certain parts of his brain went into epileptic fits.
Another man exhibited a separation of emotional memory from his sensory inputs. He recognised his parents but felt they were impersonators.
Anyway, one hypotheses the doctor came up with was that there is a specific region in the brain that contains 'religiosity'.
Those that excersize it make it stronger, those that don't ....
Which brings me to the conclusion that whether or not God is....
there will always be religious people, passing religiosity generation to generation

Interesting. I would have said no in general, since there are plenty of atheists out there who have been born into religious (often very religious) families. But maybe there is a gene somewhere for being more susceptible to supernatural thinking.

Yes it is. I've personally researched this phenomenon and interviewed several people to verify it as well... and it's true!
Secular and non-secular authors alike, all agree. Even the Bible confirms it where it states "sins of the father shall be passed down from generation to generation... up to 4 generations".
Imagine now, if you will, how many sins have been passed down since the beginning of time, from both parents' side of the family?!?!?!
