If not, why not?

If so, have these writings ever been examined and shown to in any way make the least bit of sense?

I tried writing in tongues (on a car's windshield) but it left my mouth feeling all dirty. And it got a lot of strange looks from passers-by...

It depends on your definition of tongues. I define tongues as another language. I do not define tongues as just a bunch of gibberish or nonsense sounds.
Yes people write in various languages.

I do not think the gift of tongues is speaking gibberish but the ability to speak with another person of the same language (but communicating better) or of a person speaking a foreign language and understandiing themand them understanding you.

I can sort of...I speak in tongues easily, have done since I was a kid. I know it's in "tongues" because some spiritualists said so LOLOLOL.

Actually it sounds like a language and I can do it quickly at will but it's a quirk that's all. Great for focussing my mind but that's it.
