I have a cable, its black, it fits in the jack on the bottom of my calculator, but it does not match the picture of the "black cable" the TI website shows, in fact it is more like the "gray cable", it is not a USB connection rather a 9pin serial or something along those lines. No matter what I do I can not get my computer to recognize the calculator. What is wrong?

The TI-83 Plus never came with the TI-Graph Link Cable and TI Connect Software. The items were included when purchasing the TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, TI-84 Plus, and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. You must purchase the TI Connectivity Kit sold in electronic stores or at www.eduction.ti.com.

What you have is a unit to unit link cable that connects to the bottom of your calculator to another calculator in order to transfer files.
