I'd say that soluble fiber would be a good way to go.
I think that fibersure stuff can be added to pretty much any meal.
Oats would also be a good way to add fiber and cut cholesterol.
Broccoli is another heavy-hitter. You can steam it in the microwave by wrapping it with a wet paper towel.
For fruits, an apple or a grapefruit is great as a snack. I like cutting apples ahead of time and adding a bit of lemon juice. It gives them a zing and keeps them from browning.
Another quick tip is to microwave canned soup with the addition of a small bag of frozen veggies. It really ups the fiber content of your meal without adding too many calories. Also makes the portion a ton bigger.

There is a spread like margarine called pro-active which people say lowers your cholestrol, also make sure you eat an apple every day and include some rolled oats every day, they reduce cholestrol. To lose weight stay with the low GI foods and you're not so hungry. These hints have worked for me.

Loose another 10 pounds and see if there is any change. I would take a guess since you have high cholesterol, you also have heart disease. And if that is the case, there may be nothing you can do that will hlep your BP besides taking a BP med. Taking two pills a day is NOTHING! My husband takes 19 different meds. Daily. A few of them more than one! Suck it up and take the meds. If you have to, but hey it's your body, your health.

What is important, is that you get a good variety of food; all kinds of vegetables, beans, peas, fish, meat and pasta + potatoes...
Avoid fried food!
Try to eat as much fresh food as posible; fresh vegetables that hasnt been cooked much... fresh fish boiled or baked in oven.
Usually all kinds of oven baked food is good - you dont need much fat in prepearing it, especially if you dont use creams and stuff.
Make sure to eat enough of Omega 3 oil!
"Those who follow a Mediterranean-style diet tend to have higher HDL ("good") cholesterol levels.[8] Similar to those who follow a Mediterranean diet, Arctic-dwelling Inuit - who consume high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids from fatty fish - also tend to have increased HDL cholesterol and decreased triglycerides (fatty material that circulates in the blood). In addition, fish oil supplements containing EPA and DHA have been shown to reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides. Finally, walnuts (which are rich in ALA) have been shown to lower total cholesterol and triglycerides in people with high cholesterol" Wikipedia.org... se more for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_3
