You never see people writing in tongues for some reason, I guess it would be too easy to check which language they were writing in if they did...my sister started speaking in tongues after joining a church group and I did it right back to her and said it's nothing to do with spirituality and anyone can speak gibberish, she got the message and left it behind, the glossolalia that is so that's some small improvement.

Definitely #2. However, if the person was actually speaking in "tongues", I would understand if I was meant to understand. I personally don't agree with the religions who have an "interpreter".

I've personally witnessed this "speaking in tongues" session twice inside a [Catholic] church and, folks, it ain't my cup of tea.
They themselves didn't even know what they were mouthing off! Too bizarre, and a chaotic mass hysteria. Sorry...
