Anyone:
with recent experience with buying a new mattress?
Do you prefer traditional coil style to All Foam types?
Are there drawbacks to the foam mattresses?

I bought a queen size Serta memory foam bed on sale it costs over $1600 USD with a mattress cover and 2 foam pillows.. unfortunately it is much softer than the bed I laid on at the store and unless I am EXTREMELY sleepy I don't sleep as well as on my old spring mattress...also wake up with sore back from lack of support..actually slept on other bed more than my new bed...But when tired the new bed is very comfortable..

It truly depends on how much you want to spend on a mattress and what size you're buying; but remember that you get what you pay for, especially in a mattress, and in the foam type ones even more so.
Not all foam type mattresses are created equal--the one on my couch (actually it's a futon) is comfortable for naps and sitting and shaped for that. Then there's my Tempur-Pedic. I honestly have a hard time sleeping at most of my relatives places when on vacation because their guest rooms have low-priced inner-sping mattresses on them. Duxiana is supposed to be another good quality foam mattress but slightly more expensive than a Tempur-Pedic. Also foam matttresses work best on platform beds or with the box-spring that the company makes. So if you don't have a platform bed, then you'll need to get the box spring that is made by the same company as the mattress.
As for an inner-spring mattress--the best ones I've found have the pillow top style, although the Simmons Beautyrest is good. If they don't have the pillow-top style, then you need to rotate and flip them every three or four months. I used to rotate my Simmons mattress every two and flip it every four. It was always comfortable that way.
Just remember though--You get what you pay for, so invest wisely and your mattress (no matter what type you get) will last you many years.

We bought a mattress from Wal-Mart On-line that is foam with a 4 inch layer of memory foam on top. We love it.

Simmons beautyrest is awesome. I bought my son one, it's firm but soft, if that makes sence. So comfortable.
