With so many crack heads on the road I am thinking of doing so for my protection....

a friend of mine (a truck driver) mounted one in the cab of his truck. two or three weeks later a car swerved into his lane then jammed on the brakes. Normally he would have been charged with the accident but with the videotape documenting everything he was cleared of any wrongdoing and the car driver was the one was charged first with reckless endangerment then late insurance fraud.
