Yes! File a report to with the police department. Chances are they won't find it, but since it's your ID, you might need to file a report for proof that it was stolen.

Also, contact your bank (if your credit cards weren't though them) and the Social Security office. Also, if your ID was stolen, you should inform the DMV.

Even if you feel that informing agencies/companies that your ID was stolen is redundant, do it anyway, just to make sure you're covered.

Also, don't carry your S.S. card with you; leave it at home, where it's safe[r].

You should file a lost wallet report with the local police department where you lost your wallet. And when you go about the process to obtain all your items back (that were lost in your wallet), you might need the report number. Also if you experience a case of identity theft, the lost wallet report will be some type of proof that it was identity theft.

Yes you should get a police report, But most importantly you need to go to the Security Office and report your Social Security Card stolen so there will be a fraud alert on it.
But no they do not require you to bring a report it, it's just good to have one in case they used any of your information to obtain merchandise and retailers want you to pay for it. This way it's documented that your wallet with your credit cards and Social Security card was in deed stolen

These days you need to report it to the police....you should also notify your bank....even if you don't think you had any account # in it.....you never know.
Mine was stolen many years ago.....it was pain.....the Dept. of Motor Vehicles wanted a social before getting a new licence and the social security people wanted ID...it was a nightmare catch 22.
BTW...it makes it easier to get replacements with a report # from the police....it saves time. You'll also want to make sure you have a county certified birth certificate.
GOOD LUCK

I would say the best thing you can do to protect your SS# is to contact the main Credit Bureaus to put up a fraud alert. This will red flag your SS#. If you look under the Federal/ Government section in your telephone directory, look for the Social Security Administration and they will tell you what to do and give you the phone number of a Credit Union to contact. The Credit Union will mail you a copy of your Credit Report and all you do is look over it to see if there is anything you don't recall or recognize you've done on it and put it into writing and mail them back your statement. Next go ahead and go to your local Social Security office, and bring in anything showing your name and SS#-(bank statement, pay stub, etc.), and your birth certificate and you should be set for a new social security card. You will need everything, including that SS card to attain your I.D./Driver's License back. Good Luck!

I'd contact social security and the police and also if your bank card got stolen a ATM card was in it or a bank check card I'd have your bank flag your account to check for fraud or anyone trying to use your card at an ATM or to buy something w/it. And I'd change the pin no on a credit card if one was in ur wallet and notify your credit co and tell them your wallet was stolen so if they do try to use it you aren't stuck w/the bills.

Yes... According to the FTC, you should:

1. Contact the fraud departments of any one of the three consumer reporting companies to place a fraud alert on your credit report.

2. Close the accounts that you know or believe have been tampered with or opened fraudulently.

3. File a report with your local police or police in the community where the identity theft took place.

4. File your complaint with the FTC.

Yes! If your identity gets stolen its really hard to get it back.. it even may be ruined for life. you need a police report so that in case you go to court and defend yourself against charges/bills that you did not do, you will need as much proof as possible. also the police needs to do an investigation on where the culprit will head next and to catch him/her. good luck!!!
