Unless the lenses are really good and totally compatible (exposure and autofocus) with the new Sony Alpha, I'd recommend not letting an old lens be a major factor in this decision.
I'd recommend taking a very serious look at both the Nikon and Canon models. In the long run those two will over you more flexibility. The Sony is a good camera but I don't believe that Sony offers you the room to grow. With Canon you could start out with an XTi, move up to a 30D, then maybe even a 5D if you got really serious. Same sort of thing with Nikon.
I was an old Minolta (XG1) shooter. My lenses were pre-autofocus so they didn't factor into my decision at all. I went with the Nikon D50 and have been pleased. I've been around a lot of Canon shooters and they like their stuff as well.

Your Minolta AF lens will work just fine on a Sony A100. Just take into consideration that the Sony A100 (like most digital SLR cameras) has a sensor that's smaller than a frame of film. With the A100, this results in a focal length multiplier of 1.5. That's to say that the camera will effectively magnify your lenses - the classic 28-135mm zoom will apperar to be 42-203mm, etc. This is great for tele lenses (free extra reach!) but it can severely limit the usefulness of old wide angle lenses and standard zooms.
As for the A100 vs. current models from other brands, I list two review sites in my profile and they both think the A100 is good value for money. Even so, if you won't be using your old lens, take a look at some alternatives too. Canon and Nikon are looking better than ever because of their lens lineup (for digital bodies).

Megapixels are substantial. yet no longer as substantial as human beings imagine they are. In an SLR the established comes from the established of the glass contained in the lenses you've and the established of the sensor contained in the digicam and the photographer! a reliable photographer is continually going to comprehend a thanks to modify the settings on ANY SLR to make a image seem extra useful than someone who does to understand. in case you pick authentic high quality you pick to get both a Nikon SLR or a canon. I actually have by no ability met yet another professional who has yet another kind. i in my opinion am a canon fan. Canon has a classing gadget (as does Nikon yet i do not comprehend it sorry!) yet when canon is they way you pick to bypass take this into ideas: All canon digital SLRs will be numbered observed by a d If the large style is contained in the 0000's (eg canon 1100d) it really is an basic get perfect of entry to point SLR. If the large style is contained in the 000's (eg canon 550d) it really is a amateur SLR If the large style is contained in the 00's (eg canon 60d) it really is a semi professional SLR If the large style is unmarried digit (eg canon 7d) it really is a professional SLR. For our first SLR i'd recommend get perfect of entry to point or amateur element. each and every new version of the digicam has a sparkling huge style. that's numerical in all degrees except professional. Eg: 450d, 500d, 550d and so on through the years. do not situation about profess all, that's purely confusing!
