They are both made from potatoes that have been prepared in different ways. Tater tots have other ingredients added to them. Fries have nothing added until after they are done. Then you add salt or I love spices added.

Sometimes just the texture of something can make it taste different. They are also usually seasoned differently.
I vote tater tots though. Much better tasting then fries!

Tater Tots have some onion powder and some other flavorings pressed in with the potato bits.

Because tater tots have alot of chemicals in them and are not usually deep fried....they go in the oven. I know french fries can be baked in the oven but they don't have all of those chemicalsand additives

tater tots are bits of potatoes and some kind of flavoring... french fries are just simply juliened potatoes deep fried in oil... very different

You know, that's a good question. I guess it must be because the french fries have a higher ratio of surface area that's been exposed to the hot oil. Therefore you taste more of the browned fried stuff than the mealy cooked potato.
