In a few years I'm going into the military, but which branch should I go in, The Marines or The Army?
I'm interested in Towed Artillery or Armor specifically Tank.

I want to actually be on the field, in the action.
On the news, I always hear about marines doing this and marines doing that, i never hear about the army, wtf mate?

But I hear the army gets more pay, and is slightly less physically demanding,

also, to join the marines do you have to be able to swim, and for how long, cause i can swim decently but only for short periods of time.

So which one do you think would be best for me?

HI!

Yes you have to be able to swim but they will teach you!!

"Marine" is a nautical term, is it not??

If you want to be in the field, either one is good. Artillery are usually pretty busy along with the grunts (infantry). Tankers/tracks get their fair share of field time since their job relates to the infantry and advancing forces.

The military has a pay scale, there is not one that pays better than the other. If pay is a major concern, do not enlist. You will not get rich in the military!

The Marine Corps does not offer the elaborate education, sign-on, and re-enlistment bonuses like the Army, AF, and Navy. They are a small service and have limited funds.

Most Marines join just to earn the honor of being a Marine, not for education and pay benefits. There are limited job fields in the USMC as well. Sounds like you have a good idea of what you want already, so your selection will be fairly easy.

The Army often has the extra offers like education bonuses, and the re-upping bonuses and a broader set of job choices and duty stations.

Both can be physically demanding, the Marine Corps stresses the physical part more than the Army as the are usually a force quick on the move. Neither one will be a cakewalk, just be aware of that.

If you are serious about either the Marines or the Army, you can start running and exercising now. Don't get all buff and big. Stay lean and fast, but get strong. The military is a combined endurance and strength game.

It is ultimately up to you. Make the most of it no matter your choice, otherwise you will be wasting your time.

My husband was in the Marines and he cannot swim at all. He loved it though. He still loves the Corps and will always be a Marine at heart. He got out and was going to college and talking with an Army recruiter because the Army has a wider variety of duty stations to choose from. He joined the National Guard and is serving in Iraq right now and his company is almost totally made up of former Marines. Its really up to you what your decision will be. Do you want to be able to travel to many different countries then go Army. The Marine dress blues are way better though!

You are correct: the Marines do get much more publicity than their Army bretheren. If you are looking for 'action' the Marines is the better choice. They are much smaller that the Army, have a higher overseas rotation rate as well. The Army, however, has a greater choice of jobs to choose from (and, yes the Army Physical standards are easier, they are NOT an afternoon hike either)

pay is the same for all branches. if you want armor the army is the way to go. I may be biased after 19 years in. The marines have different PT standards yes, But you aint sitting on yer butt in the Army either. Both are honorable and thank you for stepping up and serving. with the army you are garunteed your job if you meet the ASVAB stadards. More duty stations more of pretty much everything. But either way you are making a difference.

I think the Marines. They have nicer Uniforms and their much tougher then the Army. Either one you'll probably be in the action. And as for the swimming , I would think that would depend on what type job you were trained for. my Ex-Husband was in the Air Force, my cousin was in the Army, one of my son-in-laws are in the Navy and the other son-in-law is in the Marines. I'd pick the Air Force or Marines. Even if my ex was in the A.F.
