I am enlisting in the AirForce. I am a phlabotomist, which makes me useful in the med. field as I have nursing behind me as well. I love the medical field. Do I stand a very big chance of going overseas because I am in the med. field??? I would go, no problem but I am a little nervous as I have never been out of the country before and I have small children. I want to help our soldiers by being of any type assistance. Should I expect to stay or be shipped off right away???

Part of enlisting/joining is the likelihood of deploying...
not to say that you aren't willing to go, but just expect to go!

I am not trying to create hate and animosity here, just reality.

Plan for the worse.

Always keep that in mind, especially while in the military.
That way you are never unprepared for anything!

Good Luck, please be careful and make it home!

Thats a very good question, if your just getting into the service there is a very good chance that you'll be shipped overseas. But right now I'd say it would be maybe a year or so, depending on if we go to war with anyone else real soon(Korea, china, etc.) You'd be good for a year if you enlist now. Take it from a ex combat solider.

there are full service hospitals located in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait as well as on US military installations located in Japan, Korea, Germany and elsewhere. So yes, there is a chance you can go overseas.

You would not be expected to go 'outside the wire' as a phlebotomist though, you would spend all of your time behind it on the base/encampment.

not real sure about AF but even if you do with that job you'll be in a C.A.S.H. (combat area support hospital). Which means relatively safe. AF deployments to Iraq are only 3 months anyway. Thanks for joining the ranks.

Chances are good you will be sent overseas, sooner or later.
