My personal experience with Mederma - Very, very effective!!!
Gently rub the Mederma on the scar 4 times a day....and it works wonders.
Nothing can totally remove a scar, only time can do that,
but with Mederma, the scar will heal quicker and appear so smooth that you can barely see it. This is a product that really works.

Definitely, my three year old was playing and fell which gave her a ugly scar, when I saw the scar I cried, my co-worker recommends that I give Maderma a try and it works, I applied the kids version twice a day for about two months and it fades the scar significantly, I believe however if the scar is older you may have to apply it much longer for it to work, but my daughter's face looks much better, of course the scar is faintly there still but it is less visible. Now that I don't use Maderma I use 100% pure cocoa butter to help smooth her skin and blend faint scar away and they both work great. I certainly recommend these two products to anyone.

Hmm
The older the harder to fade, especially if they are raised (hypertrophic). Best to apply when the cut is still healing...losts of neosporin and moisture.
I had a raised scar on my hip from skating, a little massage with cocoa butter made it smaller....it helps break up scar tissue.
werd on the street is mederma don't do sh1t for old scars.

Yes, it's meant to form a seal, acting like a second skin so the scar can form new skin underneath. It sounds like it's working. When it peels off like that, it's time to reapply. It will take time and patience and faithful use, but it really does fade scars.

To prevent stretch marks and scars effectively use cocoa butter or a mixture of olive oil and herbs. You can find more cheap and natural remedies for stretch marks and scars at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/stretchmarks.html

Moisturizer w/vitamin E.
And no, Mederma doesn't work. It stinks like urine, too.
