ok Lilian, you assert that you've wiped clean the carb out yet have you ever checked the magnetic shrink off valve? on the aspect of the carb there's a valve put in with a twine going to it linked with a spade connector. try to be able to take heed to this click because the ignition is switched on and stale or you would possibly want to easily run a stay twine to the contact the terminal. If it doesn`t click it isn't starting so no juice is attending to the carb jets. This valve became outfitted contained in the Sixties to circumvent the engine over operating with the ignition switched off. wish that i will assist.-- Dennis ( 2 many years with VW aircooled )

the biggest stock engine that i know of is an 1800cc engine that came in the supper beetle. However, somewhere you can buy a kit thats called a big bore kit whith new cylinders that will make your engine a 2500cc. i've seen theese at vw shows before the olny downfall of this massive minute powerful air cooled engine is they over heat pretty east. but theres ways around that like a better oil cooler or something

Old porsche engines -2.2litre or thereabouts, do exceptionally well in a VW, as does the box etc, already a rear mount air cooled, so easier transplant. Look for wrecked 911 cars. Good luck!
