They are all the same breed. Their temperament depends on how they are raised, and what their parents are like.
Color difference doesn't cause temperament difference.

If you think pits are mean and that there is a breed difference between a blue nose and a red nose, then a pit bull is not the dog for you.
If you PROPERLY do research on the breed, you will find that most often blue "pits" are not pits at all, they are more American Staffordshire Terriers than American Pit Bull Terriers. Not always, however.
Before selecting the APBT for a family pet, do some research. Do not adopt the dog because it would make you look tough or because you want guard dog. Because you won't get a guard dog. You'd get a dog who'd lead the intruder to the "gold" with a big happy smile and wagging butt!
Pit bulls are very good as family dogs, but only with the right training and persistance. Please do research, as too many bad headlines come from bad pit bull owners.
and katcountry---Chance from Homeward Bound was NOT a pit. He was an American Bulldog. Petey from the older Little Rascals, however, WAS a pit.

All your answerer's have very valid points, but let me carry this even further.
"Bully" breeds (your APBT, Am-staffs, Staffies and Bull terriers and Bull dogs) are now bred for companionship, NOTHING ELSE. Your question is kinda like asking if a girl dog is smarter than a boy dog. What do you think? Do you think that a dog's "smarts" are up to the individual dog? Well, the same thing goes for the dog's temperament.
I own a Am staff. He is UNBELIEVABLY tolerant towards children. He has been exposed to children as young as 2 weeks old. Toddlers, he is great with...instinctively knows that they are young and he should act gentle and calm around them. As responsible dog owners, I do not allow my dog and young children to be unsupervised. I trust my dog with children, however, I don't trust some children with my dog. ANY breed, any color of the nose, you need to be responsible. Mean dogs usually come from a learned behaviour....don't allow that to happen and you should have no problems regardless of the nose color. Reward good behaviour.
BTW, I have a 9yr old and a 12 yr old, and my dog has been exposed to 12 children all at once all under the age of 12. Now, if that doesn't prove how tolerant these dogs can be, I don't know what will!
PS, I have included a website that has listed results of dog breed temperment tests. Check it out. I'm sure you will be surprised with the results.

Blue nose and red nose are the colors of the nose leather on the dog. Nothing more, nothing less. Blue dogs (also known by individuals who don't know any better as "blue nose pit bulls") are very overbred. They have many skin conditions and are more prone to genetic issue such as demodex mange.
And as to a pit bull (regardless of color) being around your children, the standard calls for all pit bull type dogs to be non-human aggressive. A pit bull that is human aggressive should be humanely euthanized.
Please consider a rescue pit bull. There are many of them across the US (including the blues you would like!) that are temperment tested and spayed/neutered (which will reduce and prevent many types of cancers and other intact-based ailments).

You know what i have heard a lot of cruel thing about pit bulls that just are not true! They are very strong dogs and are bread to be fighting dogs! How old are your kids? They are not suggested for very young children! But for children 10 and older they make great pets! As long as you get them young and raise them with nothing but love and affection! And obedience training is a major plus in this breed! Keep them socialized as much as possible! They are not good dogs with other animals however! If you have other pets of any kind! The dog can be a potential fatal hazard with them! They also need LOTS of exercise because if they become frustrated if not properly exercised, they try to take out their frustration in an aggressive manner! So i guess i should say get them young give lots of love exercise and socialize them as much as possible and you will have a wonderful pet!

You are going to get lots of different answers - pro and con. As for my personal experience we had a red nose pit and he was a gentle giant. His way of showing affection was to put his teeth around your arm and then slobber. He never bit or nipped. At the young age of 2-1/2 he developed kidney problems that could not be treated and we had to put him down. We had grand kids 2 & 4 and the only problem was that he was so big and strong that if he was running and playing outside with the kids and they were throwing a ball he could easily knock them over. Could we trust him - YES! We also had a blue nose pit and she was just as good with the kids and a wonderful pet. She was 60 pounds and thought she was a lap dog. The biggest object to owning any dog - YOU have to be a responsible owner, and understand the breed. Good Luck on your choice.

The Truth about Pit Bulls
Don’t believe everything you have heard!
. There are an estimated 4.8 million registered American Pit Bull Terriers that have been selectively bred for
companionship and conformation dog shows. This number does not include the unregistered APBT’s,
which would add significantly to the 4.8 million.
. The pit bull breeds have NEVER been bred for human aggression. These dogs, like all other dog breeds,
are not born inherently mean or bad! They can, like any other breed, become mean through lack of train-
ing, abuse, neglect and irresponsible ownership and breeding.
. Pit bulls do NOT have locking jaws; the pit bull’s jaw is identical to any other dog of a similar size.
. Did you know that pit bulls consistently rate higher in the American Temperament Society’s tests every
year than many common “family” dogs? The three breeds that make up pit bulls rate around the 83% pass-
ing whereas the Golden Retriever is in the 82%, Greyhound is in the 81%. You can view the list at
ww.atts.org.
. The United States Custom Service recruits pit bulls from Shelters to train in detection. One of their all
time top dogs was Popsicle, who was rescued from a refrigerator during a raid. Popsicle currently has the
highest money bust to date.
. One of the top-rated Search & Rescue teams in the U.S. is Kristine Crawford’s American Pit Bull Terrier,
Dakota. Kris has two other SAR pit bulls! They were hand-picked by NASA to aid in the recovery of the
astronauts from the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. They were also
involved in the Laci Peterson search and just recently saved a
woman’s life. You can learn more about Kris and her team at
www.forpitssake.org.
. President Roosevelt, Anthony Robbins, President Wilson, Fred
Astaire, General Patton, Humphrey Bogart, Helen Keller, Thomas
Edison, Bernadette Peters, Michael J. Fox, Ken Howard, Shannon
Elizabeth, Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson, what do these people have in
common? They are ALL the proud owners of pit bulls!
. There are many pit bulls who are productive members of society.
Trained to be service dogs, therapy assistants, educational dogs, nar-
cotics detection, actors, search and rescue and more. Many have be-
come public heroes saving peoples lives.

If you are judging meaness by something like that, you are showing that you really don't need a pit bull right now, let alone any dog. Do some research on the breed, or all dogs for that matter, because its how a dog is brought up that determines if it is "mean" or not, not looks.

Pitbulls are awsome pets...if bred properly. I would suggest contacting a reputable breeder. Breeders usually interact their pups with children. There is no difference between a red nose and blue nose. It is just the colour of their nose...it is not seen often but it is not unusual. A dog can be born with any colour nose if their parents carry the gene.

that's the most ignorant thing I've read on here so far.
www.pitbullproblem.tk/
a dog is mean if YOU MAKE IT MEAN. They are not born that way.......dogs react to circumstances......they do not sit around and think "you know, I really hate the neighbors I think I Might bite them today." Dogs live in the present, they cannot form mens rea--the guilty mind. Watch that video......makes me cry everytime.

A dog would be as mean as it's treated/mistreated. Though certain breeds have reputations for higher levels of aggression and some breeds do not do well due to their size or activity to mix with kids.
I would spend more time researching what breed dog would be a good mix for your entire family.
