I'm interested in languages and want to go into linguistics however I really don't want to live a...modest lifestyle. I've heard that you can be a lecturer or a UN translator or a million other things in international relations. Also, what colleges or university would be best for majoring in linguistics?

If you want to be rich, don't be a linguist. I think you'd be better off doing a hybrid degree in, say, law with languages or business studies with languages and using your languages as a tool in a business career. I mean this quite seriously. From your question, I suspect that you are more interested in money than languages anyway!

Once you find out, tell me. Every linguist I know lives a modest lifestyle.

if you are looking for big ticket jobs - remember that languages are rather a mean than a goal.

e.g. if you have a good profession, and speak several languages you will go far. Only with the languages, you will always be in a subordinate position (that can be very satisfactory if you are doing what you love).
