U should search msdn.microsoft.com.
It was created to store the configuration info of Windows OS and other softwares..
Don't play with registry...

firstly well done for asking seven qustions for the price of one! secondly it's located within the OS behind the GUI allowing you to access and run your programs and data that you use. that's yer lot. post 6 more questions and i may provide 6 more answers.
