Sounds like a crazy question, but here's the situation.

You're at a party and there is Brie Cheese. Obviously you don't eat the rind, but the cheese is presented like a big slice rind and all at the buffet. Do you

a) Cut off the piece you want and do the rind dissection on your own plate.

Or

b) Gouge out the cheese you want at the buffet table with the given utensil.

I guess I should rephrase. I dont care what the average neanderthal would do that the office drunkfest, but I mean what is the PROPER thing to do at a civilized gathering.

I think to Cut off the piece you want and do the rind dissection on your own plate would be the best practice.

Brie is cut into bite size with cheese or pate knife and the whole piece is eaten.
You don't take the rind off, it is suppose to be eaten.
Brie is very soft so you can even spread it onto a cracker.
There are usually water crackers or some kind of cracker to place the Brie onto and you simply put the cracker with the Brie on it into your mouth. You can put it in one or take a little bite of it but it's best to take it in one piece as you may drop lots of crumbs all over you. Just make sure it's not too big a piece.
Hope that helps.

you cut off a piece, and take off the rind on your plate.
in France, not everybody takes off the rind - it depends on the cheese, and on brie it is fully edible, most people would not take it off.
Anyway, you would not want to live a "gouged" cheese on the table for the next person.

Actually, you're supposed to eat the rind! It's soft and doesn't taste like anything.

Hope that helps!

At the uncivilized gathering I went to, it was served with the rind and people were eating it.

I thought this was going to be a flatulence question. That would have been fun(ny). Farts make me laugh.
