He looks after the home and what is in it along with the family. It is HIS domain and most dogs will protect that in some way.

If you are asking if dogs look after -protect- its owners, then yes, if you are nice to the animal (I am assuming it is a dog?) then it will protect you and your family. Dogs are also good friends - most of the time they are better than people.
