Just curious I"m talking about a crowded place like christmas shopping, Or at a fancy social function like wedding dinner???

I disagree with several of the posters:
Take ownership of the gas. You brought it into this world, now you have the responsibility of caring for it. The pride at its birth, smelling it blossom into maturity and finally, the golden seconds as it fades (somewhat) gracefully into oblivion, presaging the inescapable fate that awaits us all.
It really gives one pause to consider the lonely life-cycle of the flatulent. This is only exacerbated when we deny it its roots.

Usually some bright spark asks 'did you fart?' and I'll say 'no, but I can, if you like.' Most people laugh, or get all coy and forget about the fart.

Some things to do/say:
-"whoa, a barking spider!"
-"Hey, smells like someone had the same lunch I did today!"
-If it's one of those silent-but-deadly ones, just ignore it. If you act natural, chances are you won't be suspected.

Say : - "I am sorry,thats out of the blue."
and thn just move out saying "Excuse me for a glass of water"
