I'm not totally sure what's in Prevacid, but I usually turn to the old standby....drink some water with a little baking soda mixed in. Tastes terrible but usually works pretty good. You might want to check with your doc if you keep having heartburn and all those meds don't help though.

Heartburn is definitely something I'm familiar with - I actually take Nexium now. Rather than take Prevacid, try switching to Prilosec, since that is prescription strength and works for a full 24 hours.
In the meantime, Tums aren't strong enough if it already has a hold of you. Pick up some Pepcid Complete - it's chewable (I recommend the berry flavor) and it will not only take care of your heartburn right now, but for 12 hours.
If your esophagus is already sore due to the heartburn, take Mylanta liquid extra strength, that will coat your esophagus until the Prilosec can kick in.
If this goes on for more than a week, see your doctor to ensure you are taking strong enough measures, if you have GERD (gastro-esophogial reflux disease - what I have) you'll need to manage it to avoid permanent damage.

Do you have any raw almonds around the house or can buy almonds? Believe it or not, but almonds will stop the heartburn.
I used to have hearburns all the time and just toughed it out until it was gone. Then one day a co-worker told me to eat almonds when I had it. So the next time I had a heartburn, I ate some.. and the burning feeling went away after 15 seconds. And it's always does this ever since.
Try it! You'll be amazed. :)

Take it from my experience- heart burn in the stomach- get a test for Heliocobactor Pylori Bacteria first by visiting a doctor and getting this test done. If this is not the case, it may be genetic and certain drugs like Octocosinal may work. If it's not your stomach, get tested for Chrons disease or Colitis.

K, don't want to freak you out or make you worry but if your heartburn won't go away with medication it never hurts to go to your doctor where he can recommend testing to see if it really is heartburn or something more serious. Take care of you.
