Hahah good questions I'm ashamed I haven't got around posting it!
Where does this phrase "the bible says" come from?
Well as far as I can tell fundamental protestant Christianity .
The original bible prophets would always refer to bible text by saying "it is written" that would be more to the point and accurate because they would then go on and quote it.
Today however fundamentalists aka evangelicals (they had a name change you know) like to use "the bible says" as a means of quoting out of context and supporting an interpretation that is dear to them usually one which is not orthodox at all.
So does the bible says? of course not the bible doesn't have a mouth and vocal cords but the pastor who said it does, does allllll the talking.
and so it is written ;)

Maybe not physically, but spiritually yes.
My best friend's mom told me of one person's testimony regarding a spiritual experience while reading her Bible, which was written in a foreign language. She had prayed to be able to understand the Scripture. She reported that the printed letters popped off the page in her native language so that she could read it and write down the notes. You may consider this a hallucination or psychological illusion, but if she received the right translation, does it matter how her brain perceived it as long as the message was communicated.
