I recently got a Polaroid i639 and it says it is a 6 megapixel camera but in the options it goes up to an 8M. does anyone know what this means?

Hmm, very interesting. I checked the Polaroid website for the i639
http://www.polaroid.com/global/detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441764744&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302029037&bmUID=1165408886981&bmLocale=en_US
and it turns out (see page 42 of the manual) that the 8m setting uses the full 6-megapixel resolution of the sensor and then adds 2 more megapixels with a software trick. In other words, 8m is just a gimmick. The manual even recommends using 6m for printing pictures!
