it's all about the labour involved with shelling the nuts. for example peanuts are easy to shell therefore requires minimal labour. nuts like macadamias and i guess pistachios are more difficult to shell, so more labour is involved, which inturn means greater cost is needed to manufacture that product... which ultimately affects how much the consumer pays.
the mixed nuts are just a combination of the price of all the nuts. and anyway - any fancy product like that will have a high cost because it's convenient and comsumers will buy it regardless.

Nuts are expensive but I have found mixed nuts to be cheaper than if you bought each separately in their own tin like Cashews or Pistachios. It depends on the brand though. Also, they may might be more expensive during the holiday season too as there is more demand for them. Better to buy them beforehand.

There is that supply and demand thing...
Nuts, being an excellent snack, and source of protein, oils, etc., don't have to look far for custormers.
They also require some pretty serious land quantities, a good growing season, and picking, processing and packing are not free!
Best wishes!

Yes, they are rare and the fact is the great demand during Christmas is one of the cause of the rise of price.

quite often the blended nuts come from the super cities, us united states of america human beings tend to stay quite plenty balanced. Pecans are alive and properly, they are basically too high priced to combine with the commoners.

Because our society is backwards...anything bad for you is super cheap and anything healthy is extremely expensive. Also the holidays make it worse....I found a bag of 10 chesnuts for 8 bucks yesterday! what the heck?
