chocolate usually has a very long shelf life. About a year form date of manufacture for sale. It will actually last much longer. Chocolate develops a white powdery fungal growth on it after a long time. If you ever opened a candy bar and it was a little chalky looking, thats what it is. Its harmless though and does not affect the taste.

Chocolate lasts forever. Well, at least a year, I'd say even more. I'm sure I've had chocolate chips in my cabinet for well over a year and they were fine.
