Is it ok to take cold medicine (Tylenol Cold) while taking Lexapro? If you don't know please don't tell me to ask my Doctor, because I can't call the doctor right now. Thanks.

I'm holding the info sheet that came with my Lexapro and I am under the impression that it's ok, or at least, I would take it. The section that talks about nonprescription products seems to be referring to anything you may take on a regular basis/daily. It warns against aspirin and ibuprofen but again, I'm pretty sure that means if you are taking handfuls every day. My doctor even told me it was ok to have a glass of wine while taking Lexapro as long as I didn't drink heavily. If anything, I'd think the cold medication might just make you drowsy and some people already get drowsy from Lexapro so any warning is that it would just add to that.

"Lexapro has a low risk of interacting with other medicines in general. One important exception is the family of antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Lexapro and MAOIs should not be taken together or within 14 days of each other. As with other medicines in this class (SSRIs), caution is indicated when taking Lexapro with tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs).

As with other psychotropic drugs that interfere with serotonin reuptake, patients should be cautioned regarding the risk of bleeding associated with the concomitant use of Lexapro with NSAIDs, aspirin, or other drugs that affect coagulation. Before you begin taking Lexapro, make sure to tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other medicines, including over-the-counter medicines, herbal remedies, diet supplements, etc."

Should be OK. The medications not to take while taking antidepressants are ones that can effect your mood and Tylenol Cold doesn't. I take Zoloft and it doesn't bother me when I take Tylenol products. Go ahead and take it and get to feeling better.
