What I would do is limit their computer time.If this was going on at home I would sit at their side the whole time they were on the computer for about a week or so. Just to let them know it isn't ok to be deceitful. The fact that they spilled the beans is very good but if they get off the hook too lightly it will be easier next time to not tell.and where will they be headed next? Good Luck

They get to kiss the computer good bye. For two months at least. Myspace is asking for trouble with 14 year olds. Also, you parents need to SUPERVISE ALL computer internet time. Of course if they are doing it from school or a friends house....
Tough one. I would be upset too. My daughter is 12, and all her friends have a page- she rather uses the phone...LOL

Ask your teen what he/she learned from using my space during that month, how he felt about it, how he felt about lying to you, what made him 'fess up. Maybe that discussion will help you decide what a logical consequence should be.
Isn't there some kind of parental lock thing you can put on the computer so the kid can only use what you allow him to use?

Jeez, whats so bad about having a my space anyway.
Look, Im 23, so it wasnt that long ago that I was 14 myself. The kid could have been lying and sneaking around behind your back with something much worse... drugs, shoplifting, thugging, dealing drugs, being pregnant etc....
Reward your child for actually having the guts to come forward and be honest about it no matter how long it took them. I think its important for parents to focus on positives when it comes to teenagers and praise them when they are honest or fess up to their mistakes.

CHILL OUT. okay i know this sounds bad because im 14 too, but seriously myspace isnt that big of a deal okay i say you take away the computer for 2 weeks(except homework) and monitor her myspace. At the end of every week my mom looks at my myspace page and checks out all the friends i have--most of them anyways. But as long as she does not have her real name, adress,or phone number on there, then i dont see the problem. and her coming to you and confessing showed good judgement.

End of computer. Period. Explain to your kid that lying takes place in an instant, gaining trust back takes a long time. And each lie places regained trust back that much longer. Saw it in my brother.

Computers can obviously get kids into all sorts of things. If you are not monitoring everything you can get into a world of problems. My suggestion is cut them off of the computer for quite a while..

how ever long they were sneaking around, i'd take the computer away for that amount of time, and then i'd block them from going to myspace.
