Your dog is biting because there is something wrong,
and I would suspect a fungal problem called 'soft paw'.
It needs to be treated by a vet.
Or she may have something deep in her paw that she is trying to get out.
Either way, she needs to see the vet.

I currently have 5 dogs, two that I'm fostering for someone. Believe me, if a dog bites at their paws, they almost always have allergies of some sort. Finding out the reason for the biting is the important thing first, then trying to medicate and heal the paws. One of mine had a staph infection and him biting and licking his paws clued me in to look further. Usually it's a particular food they're allergic to. My brother had his dogs tested and the only things they both are not allergic to is beef, corn and rice. Also, there are drugs your vet can give you to help curb the itching, such as Benedryl and Prednisone. Just check with them first.

Ok, there are several questions to ask. Is your dog upset about something, have there been any changes in the environment? Is there something stuck in her paw that can't be seen? Your best bet, if there haven't been any environmental changes, like a new pet arriving in the house, is to call your vet make an appointment, chances are maybe there is something in her paw causing irritation and she's trying to get rid of it and you can't see it. If it is a reaction to an environmental change or stress, try using some bitter apple spray or cayenne pepper or even tabasco sauce. But I highly recommend calling the vet to get her checked out to make sure there is nothing small stuck in the pad causing pain or irritation. Good luck.

Allergies. Most likely to food. Ask a vet to give you specific advice, but you can try switching to natural food (which you should do anyway) that doesn't contain grains.....maybe try that first, because the whole vet thing can get expensive. Some natural foods w/out grains you can get include Innova and Flint Ranch.....but there are others. (those companies sell some with grains so read before buying) My boyfriend's dog recently hadsome of the same problems and our vet friend told us to switch foods and she hasn't had anything since. This vet has been in practice for 20+ years, he knows his stuff! Also, you can go to www.leerburg.com and find the articles on there regarding natural foods and allergies. Also, do not get your dog vaccinated every year--that causes major problems, including allergies. Get a titer test at the yearly exam which will tell you if your dog's immunity to something is low and if you need to get another set of vaccinations.

First of all most dogs always bite the bottom of their paws. If your dog is hurting herself though there are little remedies that might work like puttuing something non-toxic that tastes bad to a dog on the bottom of the paw eventually she will get over it so she doesn't have to keep tasting it. I have found that a strong lemon juice works good.

Take her to the vet. Dogs have reasons for doing things, just like people do, and if she's chewing her skin off, there's something wrong.
