I'm probably going to get in trouble here, but I'm feeling kind of brave tonight, so - here goes!
Prophets, in the sense of giving Gods inspired Word, I believe ended their ministry with the completion of Scripture.
The gift of Prophecy has been interpreted in various ways: the way in which I just mentioned; also, with the simple idea of being able to proclaim Bible truths in a way that applies to our time; and some see it as supernatural knowledge that one would not have normally (for instance, if I stated that you had cancer in a certain part of your body, and it turned out to be true, and if this kind of thing happened regularly).
Proclaiming Bible truth in an actual way, is, of course, what preachers are called on to do today. Supernatural knowledge - well, I've seen and heard enough claims, that I tend to believe it.
Now for tongues: The modern "tongues" movement usually refers to two kinds of tongues. One is speaking a language of this world miraculously. I don't know anyone personally who claims to do that. The other, more common, is claiming to speak a special language of praise, which would be "tongues of angels" (mentioned hypothetically in 1 Corinthians 13:1). I have been in several situations in which people were supposed to be speaking in tongues. I have never seen or heard a situation in which I saw any parallel to what happened in New Testament times. Neither have I heard any first hand witnesses of such a thing, or even second-hand witnesses. The "tongues of angels" have nothing whatsoever to do with bible teaching. If the other kind of tongues exists today, I have yet to see it.
By the way, I do believe in god's miraculous intervention, and I don't deny that God could miraculously start you speaking in Russian or Chinese. It's just that I've never heard about it from trustworthy sources.

God still uses prophets, but he also has given us an inner witness in the Holy Spirit. We are to be led of the Holy Spirit as for the Jews of the Old Testament, the ministry of the Holy Spirit didn't begin until after the death and Resurrection of Christ. They did not have the inner witness of the Holy Spirit, so they had to rely on prophets to hear from God. Tongues is the evidence of this ministry. Tongues is the Holy Spirit praying through you, a perfect prayer. No one knows better how to contact God than the Holy Spirit.

No. The Bible is complete now and there are prophecies yet to be fulfilled. We have all the information we need to get us through the end of this system of things.
1 Corinthians 13:8-10; "Love never fails. But whether there are [gifts of] prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will be done away with. 9 For we have partial knowledge and we prophesy partially; 10 but when that which is complete arrives, that which is partial will be done away with."
2 Peter 1:19 & 21: "Consequently we have the prophetic word [made] more sure; and YOU are doing well in paying attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and a daystar rises, in YOUR hearts. 20 For YOU know this first, that no prophecy of Scripture springs from any private interpretation. 21 For prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit."
Acts 2:3-11: " And tongues as if of fire became visible to them and were distributed about, and one sat upon each one of them, 4 and they all became filled with holy spirit and started to speak with different tongues, just as the spirit was granting them to make utterance.
5 As it was, there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, reverent men, from every nation of those under heaven. 6 So, when this sound occurred, the multitude came together and were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7 Indeed, they were astonished and began to wonder and say: “See here, all these who are speaking are Gal·i·le´ans, are they not? 8 And yet how is it we are hearing, each one of us, his own language in which we were born? 9 Par´thi·ans and Medes and E´lam·ites, and the inhabitants of Mes·o·po·ta´mi·a, and Ju·de´a and Cap·pa·do´ci·a, Pon´tus and the [district of] Asia, 10 and Phryg´i·a and Pam·phyl´i·a, Egypt and the parts of Lib´y·a, which is toward Cy·re´ne, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cre´tans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues about the magnificent things of God.”
Speaking in tongues was a gift given to help all the people of the different nations be able to undrstand all the "magnificent things of God" These first believers who were speaking in tongues to all the different languages of peoples were doing it to spread the good news of the kingdom. Otherwise no one but the Jews would have been able to understand them.

Insane asylums are full of them. Anyone who comes close to divinity starts to have a hard time talking with the everyman.
Remember that the peoples in history that speak of prophets are the same ones that revere and respect the insane.
We don't so we miss out... unless you are a nurse at the loony bin :)
