I'd like to work with Amtrak, preferably in an onboard position. I've applied via their online job site countless times, but I have a feeling my resume just gets sucked into a black hole on that thing. Does anyone know what I can do to improve my chances of getting an interview (or at least a call)?

A friend of mine once wanted to hire on with Amtrak, he was rejected numerous times, and in desperation he went to work on a shortline railroad, 15 or so years later he tried again to hire on with Amtrak as a conductor and they hired him on the spot, (he is now an engineer with Amtrak operating the Southwest Chief from ABQ to Trinidad, CO) So the advice I would give you is 1. Go to work for one of the Class 1 freight railroads, have a safe record for 15 or so years, then Amtrak should hire you, because 99.996% of the time, they are looking for someone with railroad experience. Also it does help to know some one within the Amtrak system, though I am planning on the first one first. I am going to try and hire out with BNSF next July and hopefully in 20 or so years move to Amtrak.
You might also try not to set your hopes so high, I know a guy from San Diego, CA who is a ticket agent at the Amtrak depot. He has worked for them for 4 years, i think, He is just now getting to become a conductor on Amtrak, so try and start small and then work your way up.

Amtrak is currently hiring for Lead Service attendant , On board services. Chicago and Seattle , For best results mail in resume.
its a tough job with 100% travel you will only get 48 hours off before going on call.

u will have a better chance if u know someone that works there.
