Colt did in 1991 resumed the production of the military style 45 auto of the WWII era. They even pick up the serial number range from the last one produced in 1945, and began numbering the no frills Colt 1991A1's in that manner. I saw them in 1991 at Wal Mart selling for about $ 250.

it was originally made by colt for the military by Colt to knock down drugged up Filipino pirates. The pirates were so drugged up a gun capable of knocking them down at close range was needed. During WW2 years they were produced by other companies to disperse and increase production.
