YOu can always call and ask, they will always tell you. You need 2 sets of shots and a rabies. I get the sets in WV for $15 each and the rabies for $6. Shots are all the same........so dont' think the more expensive the better, and you don't need 3 sets of shots, just the 2. That's overkill. I work with a DVM who has been doing 2 sets for 20+ years and never had a problem with it. Spay/Neuter depends on vet and breed. Average is probably around $100. You also need dewormer.......but you can buy this at Walmart or someplace similar. Look for the brand that takes care of ALL the types of worms. If the puppy has never been dewormed, do it 3 times, 2-3 weeks apart. You may also need to start heart worm medication, depends on where you live. In WV, we don't have a problem with that and dont' need it.

We also took our puppy to the vet when she was about 12 weeks, the day after we got her. The first visit was almost $100. The next several visits, about once a month so far (she's 7 months now) were about $60 to $65. Our vet did her rabies shots at 5 months. She's almost done now except for spaying within the next couple of months. Of course this doesn't count her heart worm and flea meds for the next year until it's time for her rabies shots again.

Don't forget to take the vet a stool sample for your puppy if possible, if not they will have to go in after it. Which I'm sure is very uncomfortable for the little darling.

Puppy's are expensive, but so incredibly worth it! Good luck to you and the new member of your family.

There are three series of shots that happen at about 2month then one month intervals after that. All my visits have cost about 25$ for each visit. You should really call around and just get some prices. I think the prices depend on where you live as well. I don't recommend buying vaccines from feed stores though. My vet said that sometimes the vaccines aren't handled properly and are basically useless.

Prices of vet hospitals vary. It can be cheap or expensive. It depends also on what will be done to your pup. It may need some deworming , or the vet will do fecal exam first and if found positive of worm, that's the only time they will deworm. Some vet just deworm without fecal exam and this in fact turns out to be cheaper. Aside from that he needs to be vaccinated with the mix vaccine (Distemper-Hepa-Lepto +++) and this is sometimes cheap like 20 dollars but other vets may ask about 50 dollars for this . Then you have to add consultation fee of about 20 dollars. To be exact, the best way is to call the vet hospital and canvass.

Something one should check into before ever getting a puppy! I paid 63.00 for an office call/exam/and rabies shot friday.

It really depends where you live.. Look for a low cost spay/neuter vet, they usually have lower prices on vaccines..

You will need a total of 3 vaccinations spaced 3-4 weeks apart and then rabies aroung 16 weeks..

Call your vet ahead of time to get an estimate. If your puppy only needs the standard rabies shot and check up it should only be about $35-40.

You should look in your phone book at all the different veterinary clinics in your area, and call them to ask for prices. They will usually give you an estimate on how much it will cost for the exam, the vaccines, a fecal exam, heart worm prevention, and whatever else he might need. At our clinic, in Michigan, it usually costs around $100 for the first puppy visit, but i know a lot of clinics have different prices.

for a puppy physical (vet exam) it costs $38, plus the vaccinations and worm testing/treatment comes to about $50.
However, just to go in for shots costs $15..
that is in Southern Oregon, and Central California.

Call your local animal shelter or humane society. They should have a list of estimated costs charged by your local veterinarians. I live in a small town in the midwest, where it's about $50-60 for initial exam and vaccines. However, when I was in California it was closer to $100.

A lot of towns will have a spay/neuter clinic that
will provide shots/healthcare if you agree to
have your pet spayed/neutered. This will be
the cheapest option. Puppies require regular care
for the first few months. A lot of places will charge
you a set fee for the entire package in hopes that
you will take good care of your pet.
